Sayaka Suzuki, senior hospitality major. “My family and I often talk about North Korea on social media, and they said the alarms that go off on their phones are scary, but the alarms go off so often that they are becoming normal and they are no longer surprised by it. Many people no longer even try to escape or hide. I am worried about my family, however, especially since they live in an area that is very close to North Korea.”

Misaki Jimbo, senior hospitality major. “The loud sounds of the government-issued phone notifications for when a North Korean bomb goes over Japan scares everyone, as well as the fact that North Korea is very close to Japan and a bomb may hit, but we can do nothing about it.”

Ririka Takizawa, senior hospitality major. “When I went back to Japan, there was so many news. Every day, news talked about North Korea and how should Japanese government act. It’s hard to make a decision. My parents did not worry much when North Korea shot missile because they thought North Korea didn’t try to hit the country, but the news exaggerate this event, so the gap between the government and citizens became wider. I’m worried, but I believe North Korea will not shoot anybody because there is no reason for them to attack, and it’s so risky. I don’t know why they would want to do that. But I wonder if North Korean citizens live healthy and happy lives. I want to support such people, but Japan and North Korea have issues about kidnapping, so both countries cannot communicate.”

Matt Rotter, junior accounting major. “When I was done at NWTC in Green Bay, I was looking for a college that would take all of my credits. Lakeland was one of the only colleges that would actually do so. Being here, I've learned that the food is pretty good and that it's a great community to be involved with. I've met a lot of cool people. I like the small class sizes, which makes it easier to get to know classmates and the professors. I know I made the right decision coming here. It’s somewhat close to home for me and I've been provided with many opportunities to gain knowledge for my major and other areas.”
