Coffee and cozy vibes for LU students

With the weather being unpredictable as of late, students may be looking for an escape from campus and the dreariness. Fortunately, there are many nearby coffee shops where students can relax and do homework.

Writers from The Mirror visited four nearby coffee shops and reviewed their drinks. Places visited included The Weather Center, Paradigm, and The Hub locations at bottom of article).

On Paradigm, writer and editor Jake Sagal commented “Paradigm has an unusually charming atmosphere. Between the recycled chairs and tables, the bikes hanging from the ceiling, and the relaxing music, Paradigm also provides a peaceful yet charming place to do homework. Having an extensive drink menu and delicious food menu, it may be difficult to choose what to order upon a first visit. Two highlights from the menu include a vegan chocolate chip cookie, and an iced chai latte. “ On The Weather Center, writer Mary Athorp commented “The Weather Center is the place to be if you’re searching for that “main character energy” as the urban dictionary calls it. Walking into the rustic cafe, the slow sloshing of Lake Michigan outside and the upbeat folk music inside are an eclectic match to the fish nets draping the ceilings, the locally made artwork, and the natural light flooding in from the nautical exterior.

The Weather Center has an inexpensive menu, as well as a separate study room where people can romanticize their “main character life”. The lulling chatter of the customers and the friendliness of the staff is what ties it all together and really gives this place a “Gilmore Girls” type vibe.”

At The Hub, photographer Mikayla Rieck, ordered a peppermint mocha, rating it a 7/10/ She commented “It had a really good butter coffee taste, but was a little too sweet for my liking.”

Regardless of preference, students can find many options near campus for studying and relaxing vibes.
