Changes to the process of applying for financial aid were detailed in an email sent out via David Gallianetti, director of external relations, from the Lakeland Financial Aid Office, on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

The most notable of these changes is that the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now accessible, having been made available on Oct. 1. The FAFSA will now open in October for all future academic years.

The Lakeland Financial Aid Office “strongly encourage[s] you to fill out your FAFSA as soon as possible so we can help you with the financial aid process early.”

An additional point of note is that “the 2017-18 FAFSA will ask for 2015 tax information,” according to the email.

The financial aid office will be hosting sessions to help students with the FAFSA at the Daily Grind on the following dates:

  • Nov. 1, 1-4 p.m.
  • Nov. 8, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Nov. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Dec. 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
