Seniors showcase art

Benjamin Wilks, Sports Editor

Lakeland hosted a Senior Art Exhibit showcasing pieces of art created, taken and/or designed by senior art majors.

Marvin Warfield Jr., Rebecca Stemwell, Justine Waston and Tanner Hackl all gave presentations describing their early life and love for art.

From there, it transitioned to how that love had influenced the pieces constructed by them in the show. The content of the pieces ranged from photography to paintings.

Hackl’s photograph “Infinite Eye” brought to view the eye of an unknown woman, digitally altered to have a multiplicity of colors in her iris.

Warfield took us down memory lane with a photo titled “Bars,” which showed viewers the old look of our Pub, now called the 1862 Lounge.

Stemwell painted a piece titled “Self Confidence” that represents its namesake, a self portrait of the artist looking at herself with confidence.

Watson showed the audience Native American Heritage through pen and ink in multiple pieces.

Friends of all of the seniors showed up and, at the end of their presentations, asked each artist questions to help them reach their required time limit for speaking.

Bill Weidner, associate professor of art and co-director of the gallery, of course, also chipped in and added a few laughs and insights regarding some of the art styles presented in the exhibit.

If you didn’t get a chance to see the show, you can still see some of the art on our website at Lakelandmirror.com, or you can walk over to the Bradley and see for yourself what the art program has to offer.
