Alexis Piper is the Assistant Professor of Composition and has been a part of Lakeland for two years now. Many know her for the courses she has taught throughout her stay here. But who is Alexis Pegram-Piper truly? When she was given the position at Lakeland as a professor of composition she moved to her new home in West Bend with her husband and her son. She also has an array of pets ranging from two dogs, a box tortoise named Shelly, two fancy mice, a cat, and hopes to one day get a parrot.

One of her hobbies is reading within her book groups with friends where she talks about her favorite genre of books, historical nonfiction. Her more active activities involve going outdoors where she enjoys biking, running, and cross-country skiing. Growing up she received her first pair of cross-country skis and snowshoes which opened another world of possibilities for her for the winter which she enjoyed.

Piper’s dream job since college was to be a professor, and Lakeland gave her that opportunity. If she did not have it as an option, she would have gone into being a journalist. She thinks about everything that is going around in the world and believes that all of the world events need to be noted. She admires those who go in and write these stories for the rest of the world to hear.

During her childhood she stayed on a United Methodist Church Camp which her father owned and she worked on. In the Conference Center kitchen her mother ran it until she became of age to run it herself. She worked in an industrial size kitchen where she cooked for 50-70 people a day. She loved spending time in the kitchen and worked from age 13-22 cooking for big groups of people.

One of her favorite jobs she worked at was Old World Wisconsin, which is ran by the Wisconsin Historical Society where she was a historical interpreter and welcomed people into the houses to brief them on the history while staying in character. She dressed up to match the theme of the house she worked in to keep in character.

Professor Piper’s goals for the future would be to be able to teach an Honor course on the persecution of witches. She wants to be able to talk on persecution and torture of women through these witch trials. To this she wants to propose a course to lead to further understanding in hopes to write her own book.
