Lakeland Unknown: Lizzy Hockenhull

If someone would have told me in high school that I would end up where I am now, I would have thought that they were absolutely crazy. Never in my wildest dreams did I picture my life to take the 180 that it thankfully took. In high school I was shy, I was a follower, and I had no clue what my future would look like. But by God’s grace, I turned my life around. And once I allowed Him to lead my life and direct my future, I finally found true joy.

I went out on a whim in my senior year of high school and I applied for the Sheboygan County Scholars scholarship not yet being decided on a university to continue my education at. And when I was accepted for the scholarship, I immediately knew that Lakeland was where I belonged. Not only would I be able to graduate college debt free, but I would also have the opportunity to stay close to my home and close to my church; which are two of the places that I cherish the most. I knew that for me, going far away from home had a strong potential of me starting to stray away from my faith. So being able to continue my education while also staying on track with my relationship with God has been the best of both worlds!

Since the fall, I have had so many amazing opportunities arise for me here at Lakeland. I became the Chief Marketing Officer for Launch during my first semester, and this has opened up a whole plethora of doors for me in the way of my future career. Both locally, as well as nationally. Finding a university that supports entrepreneurship is hard, but Lakeland has excelled at it! Working for Launch has already given me experiences that I never imagined to have in college, and I cannot wait to continue my work with Launch all throughout the rest of my time here at Lakeland. Launch truly sets students up for success after graduation!

I have a heart of gratitude for all that God has done in my life since beginning college, and also for each of the opportunities that I have had through Lakeland.
