Mock leads new drumline

Junior communications major Zachery Mock’s love for drums led him to form a new drumline that performed at Homecoming.

Mock has been practicing the drums for the past 10 years of his life. This inspired him to start a drumline in high school, then eventually here at Lakeland. He enjoys teaching what he loves to others and is happy to help people of all skill levels.

“The members in drumline do not have to have a background in percussion,” Mock stated. “They just have to be willing to work hard and be committed to the group.” The ideal group according to Mock is between 15 and 20 members. He stated that there are currently 15 in the group and he wants to expand it more.

Mock stated that the future of drumline is to just keep practicing and expanding. They are in the process of getting more instruments to play for shows and increasing the number of pieces they perform.

Mock stated that he hopes that drumline will continue even after he leaves Lakeland. He would like the group to gain more popularity and have a bigger audience.

“I’d like to come back in 10 years and see drumline still going,” Mock stated with a fond smile.
