The Lakeland Music Department featured “Follow the Star: Christmas at Lakeland” at this year’s Christmas concert, on the evening of Friday, Dec. 4. The concert was led by Daniel David Black, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities and Christopher Werner, assistant professor of music and director of bands.

The night started with an exchange of singing between the front and rear of the Bradley Theater to the tune of “Noel.”

The concert progressed with impressive singing performances by the Lakeland combined choirs, the Chorale and The Lakeland Choir.

Some of the most impressive songs performed were the “Japanese Snow Song,” “Sanctus” and “Agnus Dei” (from “Requiem”), which will be later performed in February during a concert in Sheboygan, along with many other area music groups.

After intermission, the Lakeland Concert Band performed, playing some beautiful pieces. The most interesting composition was “Fantasia in G,” which was alluring and complex.

The night was capped off by a choir and band combo, who played and sang renditions of classic Christmas songs, which ended in a standing ovation.

The concert was an impressive display of the truly gifted musicians and vocalists that make up the Lakeland College Music Department.
