Lakeland Unknown: Juan

“I began thinking back on my time at Lakeland as graduation looms only a few weeks away. I transferred from Lakeshore Technical College in 2020. With LTC being a technical college, I didn’t really get to live the ‘college experience’ there. When I transferred to Lakeland, I had the opportunity per se, but I didn’t take it. Since I was a commuter, it was hard for me to socialize and meet people. Reflecting on my time at Lakeland, there are a few things that I would’ve done differently. As you might have guessed one of them would have to be getting out more and meeting people.

For the two years that I was here, I drove to school, went to class, did homework, and then went home. There was little socializing throughout my day, and occasionally I’d see my buddy, Tyler. I did join the e-sports team for a semester, which I enjoyed a lot. I would go to the e-sports arena for a couple hours after my last class and play some FIFA. At the end of the semester, I even won some scholarship money from a competition I joined. When you’re a freshman and a commuter, I know it can be hard to get out and meet new people, especially if you don’t know many to start with. But from one introvert to another I would recommend you to put yourself out there more. For most, it’s the last time we will have the opportunity to meet as many people as we can.” – Juan
