The lady Muskies pulled off wins in three out of four matches in the Ripon Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22. The Muskies started the volleyball invitational off with a three set victory on Friday over Ripon before falling to St. Norbert’s College in four sets.

After the tough loss the Muskies rebounded to win their next two games over Marian University and Concordia University.

Junior Katie Freitag had 18 kills in the game against Ripon, senior Taylor Daus had 13, and junior Brittany Reindl added 51 assists.

Daus was named to the seven person all tournament team and the Muskies had the best record of teams competing in both days of the tournament.

Then, Tuesday Sept. 25, the Muskies were at home against Northern Athletic Conference rival, Wisconsin Lutheran. Lakeland came into the match with a 12-4 record as opposed to Wisconsin Lutheran’s 8-10. The Muskies lost control midway through the first set, allowing Wisconsin Lutheran to go on a 15-4 set to take the first set, 25-16.

This momentum carried into the second game as Wisconsin Lutheran went on a 10-4 run to start game two. They ended up winning the set 25-23, taking a two set lead. Lakeland was soundly beaten in the third game 25-20 to complete the sweep. Freshman Caleigh Galvan led the team with eight kills, and Reindl finished with twenty-five assists in the loss.
