The Lakeland College men’s soccer team closed out their season this week going 0-4-1 on the week.

The Muskies started their week off on Oct. 14 when they took on Aurora University in Illinois. The Muskies struggled the entire game and were outscored 4-0 in the contest. The Muskies were not able to get any kind of an offense going and were outshot 21-4, including only 3 shots on target.

The Muskie trouble didn’t stop there as they faced Milwaukee School of Engineering on Oct. 16 and were able to put up a fight but ultimately dropped the contest 2-6.

Lakeland scored the game’s first goal when Logan Massey scored at the 28th minute of the half. Paul Elzinga also contributed to the Muskies scoring. But MSOE wouldn’t go down easy, scoring three unanswered goals in 12 minutes and ultimately winning the contest 6-2.

The Muskies struggled again when they took on Wisconsin Lutheran on Oct. 20. The Muskies were once again shut out and dropped the contest 0-3. There was not a lot of action in the game with both teams combining for only 26 total shots. Lakeland was outshot 19-7 in the contest. The loss put the Muskies record at 2-13-2 going into their last two games of the season.

The Muskies looked to rebound against UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 21, but faced disappointment as they were outshot 36-3 in the contest. For the second game in a row, Lakeland was shut out and lost 8-0. Senior Goalkeeper Alex Piekarski was the standout with 11 saves in the game for the Muskies.

In the season closer, the Muskies took on Marian University on Oct. 24. The Muskies fared better with Marian than they had with previous opponents and kept the game tied. Marian started the scoring off and it looked to be a 1-0 game to the finish, but Killian McKenzie wouldn’t go down easy. The Muskie scored his first career goal, punching the ball in the net at the 78th minute.

The tie ended Lakeland’s season with a record of 2-14-3.
