Whitley will play: Injured quarterback confirms playoff return

The Muskies’ starting quarterback, senior business major Michael Whitley, will play at Nov. 18’s playoff game against the UW-Oshkosh Titans despite getting injured at a prior game.

“I’m playing tomorrow, but I think the coach wants to keep it a secret,” Whitley said. Two of Whitley’s teammates, senior computer science major Dezmen Morse and senior sports management major Donte Rowell, backed up his statement.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, Whitley sustained an injury that forced him to take an early leave against Concordia University of Chicago. He sat out the next game against Rockford University while freshman pre-dentistry major Jonathan Hagerty resumed duties at the quarterback position. Hagerty did not disappoint as he produced six touchdowns.

This upcoming weekend, the Lakeland football team is put up against the #3 nationally-ranked Titans. This is potentially the last football game as a Muskie for all the seniors including Michael Whitley.
