Reflections: Technology in the classroom

Katie Amundsen – Senior Writing and English Major – “I think it’s a good idea to have accessible technology in the classroom for classes where it’s necessary. In a lot of my English classes, having an e-book or PDFs makes it easier and is a lot cheaper than the book store. It’s a helpful asset to have in class, as long as people aren’t distracted by Twitter and Facebook.”

The Mirror asked Lakeland students their opinions on technology in the classroom. Here are their responses:

Betty Lukulu
Senior
Accounting Major

“It makes everything easier. Research is better with technology because you can get more information in a more timely manner. In accounting, that includes calculating taxes, researching laws, etc. It’s all better because with technology, software can be updated while the human mind takes time to register.”

Rebecca Stemwell

Graphic Design Major

“I think it’s a good idea to have technology accessible in the classroom especially for my major. Everything I do in class is constantly using some sort of technology. It seems like nowadays things are changing the way we use technology for school; maybe it’s time for a change.”

Writing and English Major

“I think the use of technology in the classroom should be encouraged for both teachers and students. Many times, ebooks and online resources are cheaper and more accessible; however, if students misuse technology in the classroom, that puts a bad taste in the teacher’s mouth regarding technology. With the right guidelines, technology should not be told to be ‘put away’ at the beginning of class.”
