Sophomore Nailah Jones recently started Environmentally Lakeland during the spring of 2026. This club at Lakeland University focuses on serving and educating students on campus. The group prioritizes creating a more environmentally friendly campus here at Lakeland University.  

According to Reuters, in a recent study, “70% of Gen Z and Gen Alpha felt a personal responsibility to take action on climate and sustainability challenges, and nearly two-thirds identified colleges and universities as the players they trusted most to provide leadership in these areas.” 

Environmentally Lakeland’s mission includes “To create a welcoming and educational space for students to learn about environment and sustainability on Lakeland’s campus and beyond.” 

Sophomore Nailah Jones holds the position of president of the club. Meanwhile, first-year student Shayla Kroenke is in charge of fundraising, and sophomore Payton Weathersby serves as treasurer.  

Environmentally Lakeland’s immediate plans include fundraisers, such as plant sales and garage sales. Upcoming events include upcycling events and cool trinket events.  

The group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays in a room in Old Main Hall, location to be determined.
