As part of the 2026 Extravaganza week, Lakeland University will hold an Earth Day clean-up event from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. Although this is an employee-led event, students are highly encouraged to participate to help keep our campus clean and the environment healthy. Posters can be found around campus with a QR code for students to use if they wish to sign up for the event.
During this clean-up, students will be walk and clean a trail spanning from behind the football field (location 28 on the campus map) to behind the softball diamonds (location 2 on the campus map). This trail is the main location for the Earth Day clean-up because Lakeland hopes to make it a 5K trail.

The walk will give Lakeland members a sneak peek of what the trail will be and clean up Grether Woods, which will allow the facilities team to “Pave the Way for a 5K” in hopes of getting it up and running by next semester.
If the trail ends up becoming a 5K, it will be used to host fundraisers in hopes of reviving Lakeland’s cross country and track programs. This also means other athletic teams will be able to utilize the trails more easily for conditioning and training.
In conclusion of Extravaganza week, Lakeland’s Student Government Association and President Council will host a post-extravaganza clean-up event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday, April 27. Similarly to the Earth Day clean-up, this event will help make campus a cleaner, safer and healthier place for everyone.
