Graduating college is set to be a great accomplishment for manyWith graduating right around the corner, Lakeland students are also faced with paying off student debtIf students are looking for information about how to pay off loans, Lakeland has got the answer for themLaura Orth, who works in the financial aid department here at Lakeland University was able to answer some questions that students may have. One of them being: What is this programEvery spring we host a student loan repayment session for seniors. (This is not a loan forgiveness program). Student loan borrowers who cease enrolling in at least six credits, leave school, or graduate are required to complete the federal student loan exit counseling before their six-month grace period ends.

The purpose of exit counseling is to ensure you understand your student loan obligations and are prepared for repayment. Exit counseling was sent to students last month and they can complete it on their own here or they can complete it during Tuesday’s session. this event will take place on Tuesday April 25.Laura also explains what all will be talked about on the 25.  On Tuesday, I will be going through the exit counseling live, and students will have the opportunity to complete it at that time or to just listen and ask questions. If you plan to complete it at the session, then you’ll need your phone or laptop and FSA ID.

If you have forgotten your FSA ID, you can reset it here. After the exit counseling is done, I will go through some additional loan repayment information including details about different repayment plan options, loan forgiveness programs, strategies for repayment, consolidation versus refinancing, etc”.  This would help any current or graduating Lakeland students who are wondering how to pay off loans once done with college. Answers can be found on April 25.
