Student forgiveness loan: everything you need to know

This one-time debt relief is provided by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the Biden-Harris Administration student debt relief plan. The debt relief application will be available from October 2022 through Dec. 31, 2023.

Students are eligible to receive up to $20,000 if they have received the Federal Pell Grant in College and meet the income requirements. Students are eligible to receive up to $10,000 if they did not receive the Federal Pell Grant and meet the income requirements.

Some reasons that students would likely be classified as a dependent student include being enrolled as an undergraduate student between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, born after Jan. 1, 1998, and are not married.

William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program loans, Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans held by ED or in default at a guaranty agency, Federal Perkins Loan Program loans held by ED, and Defaulted loans (includes ED-held or commercially serviced Subsidized Stafford, Unsubsidized Stafford, parent PLUS, graduate PLUS; and Perkins loans held by ED)are all eligible loans for relief received on or before June 30, 2022.
