Spotlight on Lakeland Alumni Owned Businesses in Sheboygan
December 2, 2022
When in the Sheboygan area stop in at The Bugle comics and collectibles store and look for owner Adrian Hackl. Hackl’s cheerful and driven personality will want you to be in his presence for hours. Hackl, a 2017 graduate from Lakeland, majoring in writing was able to combine his writing skills and passion for comic books by opening The Bugle comic bookstore in October of 2021.
Hackl began reading comics at the age of ten and grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons like Spiderman and X-men. Hackl became a collector of comics in early 2010 but found himself traveling far outside of Sheboygan. After talking to other store owners that he had visited throughout the years, Hackl honed in on his own skills, help from other business owners, Lakeland University, and his father who was also a business owner. Using his education in technical writing, creative writing, and advertising, Hackl found this pertinent to help his dreams become a reality and drew up his portfolio and business plan.
Hackl credits a large portion of his success to Lakeland University with the connections and education he received. Adrian said, “Lakeland gave me the knowledge and courage he was looking for to achieve this.” With a little advice added to those who are seeking entrepreneurship or wondering what is beyond graduation, he said, “Leave your pride on the shelf, and ask for help. Especially if you are starting something new.” He said that with creative writing as his background some people would ask what he was going to do with that. Hackl’s response, “Whatever I wanted.”
Hackl is proud to share his passion with others and you can visit The Bugle on Facebook or at stop in at 1148 Union Ave, Sheboygan.

Great article, it’s fantastic to see what those who Graduated are doing now.
It’s awesomely inspiring to see this young man, take his passion for writing, and comics, to put them together and open a business. It develops confidence in others Who might be scared or hesitant to push forward with their dreams and passion to open a business and become successful.
Seeing Adrian achieve his goal of owning his own business, being able to combine the skills he learned in school, and from others along the way, with his passion for comics, is a phenomenal motivation for others to go out, push forward, and achieve their dream too.
Congratulations, Adrian on your new store, and being a graduate of Lakeland college with your bachelors degree in writing. What an amazing accomplishment!!!
