Lakeland’s Rotaract Club

Maddie Bentley, Staff Reporter

When talking with the Rotary Club President, Kaytlyn Weidig, she first wanted to clear up that the club is called Lakeland’s Rotaract Club. “We are affiliated with Rotary, but they are two different things.”

“Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.” (Rotary)

She told me that students should get involved in Rotaract because “it is a terrific way to network with other students and people in the community. It is also a great way to volunteer to make the community and the world a better place.”

Right now, they are in the middle of putting together our second fundraiser for Safe Harbor. In the spring, they plan to raise money to donate to Common Hope to help sponsor a student in Guatemala. Students can get involved by contacting Kaytlyn directly at [email protected] or attending one of their upcoming meetings.

The tie blanket was an enormous success considering the club was able to make and sell 15 tie blankets and all the money raised will be donated to Safe Harbor. They paired up with the woman’s wrestling team for this event. “It was really fun for everyone to get together and meet new people while eating, enjoying some music, and making a blanket.”
