Lacrosse at Lakeland

Lakeland University now has an intramural lacrosse team. Founder Brendan Perry gave some insight on how the idea came up and the process involved in starting it. He was initially trying to think of ways to improve people’s day to day lives and potentially bring the school more money. The first thing that came to mind for him was a lacrosse team, so he decided to try and start it.

Once it became a concrete endeavor, Perry and LaJill looked into the financial side of putting together a lacrosse team. They are still working on finding all the funding they need for equipment but are now in the process of gathering students to play. A sizable number of students have already signed up and they are well on their way to being able to kick off play next semester.

When asked about his future plans for lacrosse here at Lakeland, Perry shared that he would eventually like to see the intramural team develop into an NCAA lacrosse team. The hope would be to offer students looking to continue their lacrosse careers an option to do so. The biggest challenge in that process according to Perry would be finding a coach.

Finally, with all the time and effort it takes to build something like this we asked Brendan what sparked his interest in lacrosse to begin with. He played lacrosse for a club in high school for fun and had always wanted to play it in a competitive arena. Now that the task is well on its way, we can’t wait to see what Lakeland’s intramural lacrosse team can turn into.
