Celebrating the Women of Lakeland

Although Women’s History Month has come to an end, here at Lakeland we celebrate women all year long. With this, we have an opportunity to recognize many of the incredible women who make up Lakeland’s staff, faculty, and students.

Before March drew to a close, Lakeland University celebrated Women’s History Month. With this, we have an opportunity to recognize many of  the incredible women who make up Lakeland’s staff, faculty, and students. Lakeland has been influenced by numerous ladies over time.

Each year, Lakeland hosts an annual women networking event titled SOAR: Women reaching higher. This yearly event features powerful women from different backgrounds whose work focuses on educating and inspiring other women. Topics include discussions about how to deal with gender stereotypes in the workplace, being physically fit and improving your mental health.

On our campus, we have a group named Ladies of Virtue. This group aims to learn how to work together of women through community service. Josalynn Norris the president of Ladies of Virtue says “We use our power by acknowledging that we are females and we have to stick together and learn further. We are just as capable as being successful and influential as the next person and we strive to reach those levels.”

Lakeland’s women’s sports teams are strong and powerful. With each game or match, those in the stands can see how well they work together and help each other to improve, motivate and enhance their inner woman’s power.

All of our female educators are under appreciated for always leaving a mark on our students everyday. At Lakeland, students encounter professors who are happy to share their knowledge with us and always bring a positive energy to campus. They always make us feel good about learning and simply being present.
