Students craft blankets for charity

Rotaract, the college version of service organization Rotary, came to Lakeland in the form of cutting blankets.

Students made tie blankets and encouraged everyone on campus to help cut and tie the blankets to benefit those in need. The blankets were also sold for personal use and donated to Safe Harbor and Mary’s Room in Sheboygan. The organization accepts donations if one does not want to purchase a blanket as well.

“It can help the group to expand their individual professional networks and skills from leaders throughout the community,” group head Tina Castillo said of the project.

The group chose to donate some of the proceeds to the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) movement for India.
