Volleyball team learns from travels

The Men’s Volleyball team recently had the chance to travel to California.

Head Coach Ryan Schopf said, “We had an awesome time as a team in California. Any time you get a chance to travel to a warm weather climate and play great volleyball, we will take it.”

The Muskie men played three games in California, with one win and two losses.

The team lost against the fifth nationally ranked University of California Santa Cruz and also lost against New York University, which is ranked ninth in the nation.

The men did come out on top by beating the host team, California Lutheran.

“We learned a lot about our team this weekend. Any time you play nationally ranked teams, you learn about yourself. We did some really great things in these matches but also found out that in order to compete with the nation’s best, we have to be more consistent,” said Schopf.

“We will use what we learned and get back in the gym with a passion and work ethic that we need so take another step forward as a team,” said Schopf.

After sweeping their latest matches with three wins at the Loras Invite, the men’s volleyball team is next set to play Wittenberg University (Ohio) on Friday, Feb. 5 at home, followed by another homestand for the Lakeland Triangular on Saturday, Feb. 6 against both University of California Santa Cruz and Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio).
