LC students raise awareness

On Jan. 30, nine students and one alumna helped to raise awareness for Hansen’s disease (leprosy) in Japan. The students, who attend Lakeland College Japan (LCJ), formed a concert of poetry, music and songs that were played for 80 people. Many of the people who attended were either current or former victims of the disease. The event was arranged by Makoto Kitahara, curator of the Jyu-kanbo Museum and Iskra Gencheva, professor at Lakeland College Japan. Students who participated include Sayaka Sue, Kozue Sasamoto, Yu Suenaga, Angie Wiedensee, Elisa Velez, James Stuart, Guillermo Campos, Megumi Takagaki and Yoji Hayashi. Mika Endo, who is an alumna of LCJ, also participated. These students represented Colombia, Chile, U.S. and Japan.
