Meal plans too big and too small

Do you have issues with your meal plan? Toward the end of every semester, it seems as though Lakeland students are either out of meal swipes or have a ton left.

Even though Dezmen Morse, junior communication major, has the 150-meal plan, he is already out of swipes for the semester. ‘Many athletes, in particular football players, are out of meal swipes because we practice and work out a lot,” Morse said. ‘‘It is important for athletes to eat a lot of food for their bodies.’’

Some students, on the other hand, have a lot of meal swipes still left. Shuka Wong, junior communication major, has the 100-meal plan. She has a lot of meal swipes left due to liking to cook her own food and not using any Muskie money at the 1862 Lounge.

Because she has too many meal swipes to use by herself, Wong gives her extra meal swipes to her friends. “If Lakeland provides a 50 meal plan, I will take the meal plan,” Wong said.

According to Mark Wagner, director of dining services, Lakeland offers four different meal plans: a 75-meal plan, a 100-meal plan, a 150-meal plan and a 200-meal plan. A 75-meal plan is also available for apartment residents only.

If students need more meal swipes, Wagner highly recommends the 200 meal plan. He also encourages students to use their own meal swipes as each student has a different meal plan.
