Theater Club, started by Bella Geisthardt, provides a creative outlet for all students.
Theater Club began this semester and was founded by its president: Bella Geisthardt. Theater Club’s mission is to “unite theater performers and theater enjoyers.” Currently, Geisthardt says the club is “focused on helping with the spring musical.” The club’s goal is to assist with different theater events whether on or off stage. Geisthardt mentions Theater Club will be participating in fundraising, painting sets, designing costumes, tech roles, stage crew, selling tickets, choreography, “all the goods.”
Geisthardt started this organization to unite her fellow theater enjoyers. She felt there wasn’t much support for theater at Lakeland and knew there were numerous people who shared her same interest with no organization to collaborate with. Geisthardt says, “So that’s why I started Theater Club: to give us all one place to meet up and to help out with some of the more struggling aspects of theater at Lakeland.”
Theater Club is open to all who want “to find a creative outlet on campus.” Geisthardt mentions Theater Club has a place for everyone: “If you’re interested in dance, we have a place for you. If you’re interested in painting, we have a place for you. If you’re interested in fashion, we have a place for you. If you’re interested in tech and all that, we have a place for you. If you are interested in making friends and meeting new people, we have a place for you. And if you need volunteer hours, we got that too.”
Theater Club is a “super low commitment.” It does not hold regular meetings and is “more of a volunteer-based organization.” Theater Club also requires no prior knowledge or experience of theater. Geisthardt claims, “If you want to learn anything about theater, you can learn it in the club”. Theater Club has numerous options for members to participate in and “get to know really cool people who enjoy the same thing as you do.”
In order to join Theater Club, one can contact President Bella Geisthardt, or anyone on the council: Bryndyn Schroeder, Taylor Stoelb, Bella Wolf and Lola D’Acquisto. Contacting any of these members can “get you all the information you need.”
Theater Club has big plans for its future, starting with its upcoming poster night on March 17. This poster night includes members gathering to put up posters for Lakeland’s upcoming “Shrek the Musical” around campus and surrounding towns. Activities also include making cast bios and trifold posters for the musical’s cast.
When asked for her favorite element of Theater Club, Geisthardt said: “I think it’s just the people. … It’s a really diverse group of people who are all coming together because … they can find their creative outlet in the club.”
