Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Mark Heimermann, teaches some of the most unforgettable courses here at Lakeland University. From “Approaching Literature: MONSTERS!” and “The Art of Comics” to last fall’s “Long Story Short: Taylor Swift’s Songs as Narrative Poetry,” Dr. Heimermann’s courses seamlessly blend popular culture, rhetorical analysis and critical thinking.
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Heimermann enjoys spending time at home with his wife and pursuing creative projects. During the height of the pandemic, he learned to sew due to ill-fitting masks tugging on his ears. His time sewing more comfortable masks eventually sparked his interest in crocheting.
With this newfound talent, Dr. Heimermann has enjoyed making baby blankets for family and friends. Maintaining several hobbies helps to keep variety in his life and challenges him to discover new creative interests.
Professionally, Dr. Heimermann hopes to pursue more story writing and publishing endeavors. He also hopes to build more connections to local non-profit organizations in which he can use his writing and rhetorical skills.
Dr. Heimermann encourages students to lean into their Lakeland experience and engage with as many creative opportunities as possible. Whether you are a fan of comics or a Swiftie, you can check out one of Dr. Heimermann’s unforgettable classes this fall.
