Twice a year, near the beginning of every semester, all six Greek organizations host weeklong events and parties in an effort to secure potential new members, also known as “pledges.” These weeks are colloquially known as “rush week.” At the end of rush week, each Greek organization hands out invitations to students they are interested in pledging, and these students decide whether or not to pledge. Rush week was particularly successful this year, according to various people in the Greek community.
“I believe this pledge class for the Phi Delta Omega Sorority has many fantastic qualities, and I am very pleased to be the pledge master for the sorority’s fall 2013 class,” said junior music major Rachel Hakala. Other organizations also reported high numbers of new pledges.
Sally Bork, faculty adviser to the Inter-Greek Council, said, “Rush week went really well! The number of bids was really impressive.”
Bork partly accounts the success of this year’s rush week to early recruiting, citing an ice cream social hosted by Greek Life during orientation.
If you are interested in pledging to a Greek organization, it is too late this semester; however, rush week will take place again in January.
