Freshman Alec Noa, freshman Marcus McCauley, and sophomore Jacob Maechtle, who all finished in third place at their weight, led Lakeland’s wrestling team on Nov. 3.
The invite included just six teams: Lakeland, Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Carroll, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, and UW-Oshkosh.
Despite not having anyone advance to the finals, Lakeland was able to put on a strong showing against stiff competition with two wrestlers claiming fourth place on top of three third place finishers.
Noa dominated his third place match, achieving 9-4 over Kevin Urban of Carroll.
Mccaulley emerged from a field of five Lakeland 141 pounders to take third.
Sophomore Eduardo Orihuela and freshman Wesley Colton each took fourth place.
Freshman Rashaun Sparks finished 1-2 in his first ever college tournament, wrestling in the wide 141 lb field. Sophomore Juan Diaz finished 3-2, losing to McCauley in the match before that of the third place match.
UW-Stevens Point led the tournament with five individual champions, UW-Whitewater trailed with four, and UW-Oshkosh took home one at 184 lbs.
The Muskies face off against UW-Stevens Point in a dual meet at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Pulaski high school.
