The Lakeland College women’s volleyball team has begun the year with a 4-0 record at their first tournament at the Illinois College Volleyball Invitational.
Their first match against Culver-Stockton (MO) took four sets before the Muskies won their first match of the season at (12-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17). The volleyball girls whizzed through their next match against MacMurry (IL) as they defeated their opponents with in the first three games (25-14, 25-19, 25-17), leaving the Muskies with a 2-0 lead on their season.
Their next match against the tournament host, Illinois College, was won in four sets (25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23). The Lakeland volleyball team finished the season’s first tournament with a sound defeat against the Aurora University Spartans (25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23). This year is the first since 2006 that the Muskie women’s volleyball team has started the season with a 4-0 lead.
This tournament stands as the first matches the women’s Muskie volleyball team has played under new head coach Kim Budowski. Before coming to Lakeland, Budowski was an assistant coach at NCAA Division I, Valparaiso University.
