Lakeland College’s Women’s Golf team competed in three team tournaments and TaVea Peterson competed individually at this season’s conference tournament in Jordan, Minnesota.
Some highlights of the fall 2012 season took place at the golf tournament in Ripon, Wisconsin. It was at this meet where, individually, Peterson hit a low 101, and her teammate, Kristina Cook, scored a 102. Peterson finished 32 at this season’s conference tournament in Jordan, Minnesota.
“I’m pretty proud of her,” says Women’s Golf Coach, Britni Fett, in reference to Peterson’s standing at the conference tournament.
Despite the short season and a small team, Fett says, “I saw improvement with each tournament.”
Peterson would have to agree with her coach as she says, “I felt like I improved every time I went out and played; I did my best, but I know I can improve my game.
“I enjoyed [this season] because coach helped me and tried to fix my game, and I got to meet other players from different teams.”
The fall season of Women’s Golf was cut short due to injuries and the date of the conference tournament was scheduled for earlier in the season.
However, the Women’s Golf spring 2013 season, which starts in March, has five tournaments scheduled.
Fett expresses her excitement for the up-coming season, saying, “I’m looking forward to the experience from incoming freshmen.”
She also hopes to see leadership from Peterson and Cook in the next season.
Fett does not stand alone in her excitement.
Peterson also expresses her enthusiasm, saying, “I am totally looking forward to next season so I can improve my game and be a team leader.”
As the fall 2012 season closes, Fett smiles and says, “They worked really hard and made a lot of improvement from beginning to end.”
The team hopes to continue improving as they plan for the upcoming spring season.
