The Lakeland College Women’s Basketball team lost on Feb. 22 at home against Concordia University Wisconsin, 56-44, to end their season.
With just seconds remaining in the first half and the Muskies down by eight, 28-20, senior Becca Tilleman put up a half-court shot as the clock expired. The shot gently bounced off the backboard and through the hoop, firing up the Muskie fans and team alike to pull the Muskies within five going into halftime, 28-23.
Unfortunately for the Muskies, they couldn’t cut much further into that lead. To start the second half, the Muskies cut the lead to two points, 29-27, but that’s as close as they got. Fouls and free throws helped increase the lead for Concordia, ending the Muskies season.
“We couldn’t get rebounds,” Tilleman said. “That’s what killed us.”
The Muskies were outrebounded in the game 48 to 26 and the Muskies also gave up 16 offensive rebounds resulting in eleven points for Concordia.
“In addition to being outrebounded, we didn’t do a very good job of getting to the free throw line or finishing,” sophomore Jess Genke said. “That definitely hurt us.”
Junior Dana Henrichs led the Muskies in scoring with 13 points. Genke added eight more for the Muskies.
With the loss, the Muskies end the season with an overall record of 18-8.
