The Lakeland softball team split two games against Dominican at home on Apr. 15.
Junior pitcher Erin Henk got the start in both games. Henk pitched nine innings in Game 1, an extra-inning thriller the Muskies eventually lost 1-0. Henk struck out four and gave up eight hits, allowing one earned run.
Henk pitched seven innings, allowing 12 hits and three earned runs, in Game 2. The Muskies would go on to win Game 2 4-3, scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With the win, Henk is now 9-5 on the season.
“We did a good job in the second game,” Henk said. “We just needed to hit the ball in the first game. That’s what it all came down to.”
Offensively for the Muskies, senior Leah Sheahan led the way for the Muskies. Sheahan went 4-6 on the day with one RBI. She also scored the game-winning run in Game 2.
“It always feels good to break a slump and be successful at the plate during a game,” Sheahan said. “She (the opposing pitcher) had a lot of good movement but after the first few at-bats I made adjustments and they seemed to work. Erin pitched an amazing 16 innings and the defense played well behind her. We just need to wake up our bats and string hits together earlier in the game.”
With the split, the Muskies are now 14-10 overall, and 9-3 in NAC play. They will resume action on Apr. 17 against MSOE in Milwaukee.
