The Lakeland College men’s basketball team started their season off with a bang going 2-0 in their season openers. The Muskies were led by Joey Burris who had 50 points combined in both games, as well as Jake Schwarz who scored 57 points combined in both games.
On Friday, Nov.16 the Muskies battled Lake Forrest College in the Wehr gym. The Muskies came back after being behind 83-79 in the last minute of the game, sending it into overtime. In overtime the Muskies and Lake Forrest College were tied 17 times and exchanged leads 12 times. The Muskies were finally able to close the contest out when they rallied and won 113-112. The Muskies’ win did not come easy as the contest went into triple overtime, which lasted almost three hours.
The Muskies were led by Burris who had a career-high 36 points and Schwarz who had 27 points.
In the second game of the season, the Muskies rolled past Beloit College in winning the contest 92-80. The Muskies took charge and went on an 11-2 run and never looked back. Beloit was unable to regain the lead for the rest of the game.
The Muskies look to make it a perfect 3-0 when they take on Edgewood College in their NAC season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. Edgewood is the defending NAC tournament champion.
