A new turf may be built for Lakeland College’s sports lovers in the near future. This project is in the very early stages of consideration. Renderings are being drawn of the project to more fully examine what the potential turf would offer.
According to Vice President for Student Development & Athletics Nate Dehne, the cost of the project as a whole (including the new building, turf, lights and bleachers) is estimated at approximately $4 million dollars.
Funding for the project is uncertain at the moment, although Lakeland College hopes to raise the money through fundraising, alumni, sponsors, college friends and donations. The project will not affect the tuition payment of students.
“This project can benefit the student growth of the college, provide a better and safer area to conduct Lakeland’s sports, and put us on par with the competing colleges for enrollment,” Dehne said.
Additionally, many different sports will be able to utilize the new space and there is the possibility of creating new sports teams not yet offered at Lakeland. The athletic department hopes this project will gain momentum and become a reality.
