The Lakeland College Women’s Basketball team won their eighth straight game by beating Marian University 81-69 at home on senior day and during Pink Zone.
The game was tied at 66 points with just over three minutes remaining in the second half when sophomore Jess Genke hit a jump shot to give the Muskies a two point advantage, 68-66.
With two minutes remaining senior Becca Tilleman drained a three point basket to give the Muskies a 71-66 lead and they never looked back.
“It was amazing!” Tilleman said. “Knowing that with Pink Zone we would have a big crowd because of the cause we were supporting it was great to win. I’m just proud of my teammates that we had a successful game.”
The Muskies defense forced Marian into committing 21 turnovers while the Muskies committed only 16 of their own and also blocked five shots.
“The biggest difference between the game today and the last time we played them (Marian) was that we changed up our defense,” Genke said. “We didn’t let them beat us from the perimeter like they did last time.”
Genke led the Muskies in scoring with 16 points and sophomore Leah Eisner and junior Dana Henrichs added eleven each.
Seniors Becca Tilleman, Becca Paulson, Alyssa Schuttenhelm, and Allison Davis finished with eight, four, seven, and five points respectively.
With the win the Muskies improve to 17-6 overall and 12-5 in NAC play. The Muskies will resume action on Feb. 15 at Edgewood College. Tipoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
