The Lakeland College Women’s Softball team lost both games of a doubleheader on April 21 at Rockford College.
Junior pitcher Erin Henk got the start in Game 1 and pitched six innings, giving up 15 hits, and eight runs (three earned). With the loss, Henk is now 11-5 on the season.
The Muskies had a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning, but then the Rockford bats came alive.
“We just need to stop making errors,” Henk said, “and keep hitting the ball.”
The Muskies would lose Game 1, 8-5.
Freshman pitcher Amanda Graves got the call to start Game 2. Graves allowed six earned runs on four hits and didn’t make it out of the first inning.
With the loss, Graves is now 2-3 on the season.
Freshman pitcher Elizabeth Zimmerman came in to relieve Graves in the first inning and pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits.
Henk pitched the final 3 2/3 innings of the game, giving up no runs on three hits.
The Muskies made a strong comeback, cutting the lead to 8-7 in the fifth inning, but were unable to score the tying run.
The game would result in an 8-7 Muskie loss.
With the losses, the Muskies are now 16-12 overall and 11-5 in NAC play.
They will resume play on Apr. 22 at Concordia University Chicago. The first pitch of Game 1 of the doubleheader will be at noon.
