The Lakeland College Women’s Basketball team won their fourth straight game on Feb. 1 by beating the Wisconsin Lutheran (WLC) Warriors 77-62 at Wisconsin Lutheran.
After being down by as many as 13 points early in the second half, the Muskies fought their way back into the game and took the lead with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. The Muskies continued to increase the lead throughout the rest of the second half, ending the game with a 15 point victory.
“We really stuck together as a team and put them under pressure with our defense,” junior forward Becky Mayo said. “We were able to get tough stops and then convert those into points. We just took it play by play and played with a lot of heart.”
Coming into the game the Warriors were in first place in the NAC North division with a 16-3 overall record, 13-0 in NAC play.
The Muskies shot 50% from the field, 53% from the three point line, and 79% at the free throw line.
“We took what they gave us (on offense),” senior guard Becca Tilleman said. “In the second half we did the little things right, like looking for our shooters and being patient.”
Sophomore forward Jessica Genke led the Muskies in scoring with 14 points and junior Dana Henrichs added 13.
With the win the Muskies improve to 13-6 overall and 8-5 in the NAC. They will resume action on Feb. 4 at home against Benedictine University. Tipoff will be at 2:00 p.m.
