Over the summer, Lakeland University’s Muskie Mart moved from its location inside of the Wehr Center to the Younger Family Campus Center cafeteria. Not only did it move, but the Mart also expanded to now include new cafeteria services and a larger store.
These changes happened as the result of Roseily Carrasquillo’s senior project during the 2024-25 school year. She mentioned that the purpose of the project was to “gather information on what opinions students had” and “implement most, if not all, of the ideas the students provided.” One of the most popular ideas was to make the Muskie Mart have the same feel as Kwik Trip.
The Muskie Mart, now proudly known as the Muskies Market after the move from the Wehr Center, sells even more items than previously. Students have expressed their enthusiasm about this change, as it has prevented them from needing to take special trips to the store on a busy school night.
Not only is the store larger, but so is the number of available food options at a given time. Now, the Muskies Market has hot dogs, pizza and a build-your-own sub line alongside the original cafeteria. Students who have a gluten allergy have also stated that the gluten free menu has become much better for both quality and number of options.
One student in particular, Sarah Stege, a current Lakeland senior, has mentioned that she appreciates how the “Muskies Market provides a central location for food service” and that she is able to choose between options such as “a hot meal, a sub, pizza, a salad or a prepackaged snack.”
Stege also stated how nice moving the Muskies Market from the Wehr Center into the Campus Center is. She said that “it’s really nice that those who live in the dorms and apartments on the south side of campus no longer have to trek all the way to Wehr” just to get snacks or other essential items.
The Muskies Market staff are hopeful for the future of the store, thinking that it will be a success and remain a part of the Campus Center in the coming school years. Students have the same feelings and express them to the staff all the time. The staff love to converse with and support the students here on campus and would love it if more students would come to the Muskies Market to enjoy it with them!
