Lakeland University hosts “Shrek the Musical” this spring 2025. “Shrek the Musical” will be held April 3, 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. and April 6 at 2 p.m. in the Bradley Theater. The cast, crew and volunteers give a glimpse behind the scenes to promote the upcoming show.
Emma Valind plays Gingy and Fairy Godmother and is the choreographer for the show. According to Valind, attendees should, “expect to laugh, and laugh a lot. This show … teaches the importance of standing up for [oneself] and being true to [oneself] no matter what others say.” Additionally, Taylor Stoelb, who plays the Wicked Witch, a Blind Mouse, Tinkerbell and a Duloc Dancer, adds that attendees should expect a “high energy show.” Stoelb also says, “There are a lot of very talented people involved with this project, so it will be a lot of fun!”
Valind also mentioned: “I want it to be known that this show has brought together not only LU students but the community as well. We have multiple alums and community members helping with the show or participating in it, and I especially think it’s cool that we have three middle-high school age actors in our show. This is a big opportunity for someone their ages and it has been a blast working with them.”
The cast mentioned how much hard work has been put into the making of this show both during and outside of rehearsal hours. This applies to the performance, along with set design and creation, props, technology and more. Miranda Boswell, who plays a Little Pig and a Blind Mouse, said, “There have been so many moving parts to this show. From auditions to tech week, to makeup and costumes. A big thank you to our tech team, stage managers, makeup, and costumes, and of course the pit and [Dr. Evan Chancellor].”
Lakeland’s Theater Club is one of many volunteers for this event. Members have helped specifically with the front of house elements of the show. They created cast trifold posters and will make and sell concessions for attendees to enjoy. These concessions will include a variety of options themed after the musical.
