Sarah Stege, a sophomore from Hartford, Wis, came to Lakeland pursuing a double major in both creative and professional writing. At the end of her first-year last spring, Sarah took a job with Lakeland’s own Launch program to get professional experience authoring their annual report. Along with the guidance from Launch’s staff mentor, Kym Leibham, Sarah, and her newfound knowledge of the student-run entrepreneurship program, produced a whole new focus for herself. With the creation of the Lakeland Content Writers also comes a powerful new experience for the community and Lakeland’s writing program.
With the goal to become a technical writer after graduating, Sarah’s development of the Lakeland Content Writers business will open opportunities to build her own portfolio with writing experiences, as well as those of other writing students; to provide quality writing content of many varieties to local businesses. This is not only beneficial to students, but Lakeland itself, as it brings more awareness to the writing programs Lakeland offers and highlights them to students, to aid future admissions for anyone interested in writing.
Sarah’s creation of this business gave her the chance to grow her writing skills and encourage the growth of other writers around Lakeland and its community. In her attentiveness to create a writing-focused business, her ideas also hope to provide quality work for smaller businesses within the community with the aid of Launch. As the creator of this business, Sarah is able to offer fellow writing students at Lakeland the opportunity to bring their writing to focus and out into the workforce.
Sarah works as the manager of the Content Writers. There is no public advertisement for this new business, as it just launched this Fall. Despite this, they have actively accepted their first official job for the community. Lakeland Content Writers is the fifth official student-run business through the launch program, paving a new view for Lakeland’s students and community outside of more popular majors and minors such as marketing and sports.
Interested students and businesses are encouraged to contact Sarah for more information or collaboration about the Lakeland Content Writers through Launch’s website, or via email at [email protected].
