A student was arrested for possessing narcotics during a K-9 training exercise scheduled between Lakeland and several local law enforcement departments on Dec. 6.

According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, the student was arrested at approximately 9 a.m. Lakeland’s Director of External Relations David Gallianetti stated the student was arrested on felony charges. In Wisconsin, both simple possession of and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I and II narcotics are felonies.

From morning until approximately 2 p.m., law enforcement members from the police departments of Sheboygan, Cedarburg and Plymouth and sheriff departments of Sheboygan and Calumet counties were present on campus for the K-9 exercise.

“All the K-9 units were split up in teams paired with a Lakeland University Campus Safety Officer and assigned a residential hall to train in,” Director of Campus Safety & Security David Simon said. Law enforcement vehicles were seen outside of Brotz and Muehlmeier.

According to Gallianetti, the training session was one of several. “This is part of an ongoing relationship between Lakeland and local municipal and county law enforcement to use Lakeland’s campus to conduct various training exercises,” he said of the K-9 exercise.
