Need an ice cream pick-me-up after a particularly hard midterm exam? Look no further than Lakeland College’s brand new ice cream stand.
The Daily Scoop can be found in the campus center and is an extension of the Daily Grind, the college’s coffee shop. It was purchased this summer along with other new equipment for the institution.
The Daily Scoop has eight delicious flavors to choose from, which will be available for purchase all academic year.
“The daily scoop was added during (Lakeland’s) music camp week in July,” said Sarah Wagner, manager for the Daily Grind. She said the idea emerged when the Daily Grind was looking for something new to bring to the campus.
As far as future ice cream availability goes, Lyndsi Edington, a Daily Grind/Scoop staff member and Lakeland senior, believes that the Daily Grind is planning to permanently keep the ice cream stand.
“It’s a great way to expand the Daily Grind,” said Edington.
Of course, the Daily Scoop’s longevity will rely on its popularity among students.
“(Sales) were really good during the first week of classes,” said Wagner, “however, (the Daily Grind) is always open to suggestions on what students prefer.”
“I think it’s good ice cream, but it’s store bought,” said freshman Angela Herbst.
With prices ranging from $1.25 to $2.25, college students can easily afford a special treat. Students have the ability to pay cash for ice cream, or use their Muskie money to purchase it. Consumers will be able to use cards in the near future.
“We should have our credit card machine up and going by the end of the month,” said Wagner.
The Daily Scoop is open Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is closed on the weekends.
