The third annual Mosaic Concert took place in the Bradley Theater on Thursday, Feb. 16th.
“Mosaic is an opportunity for the Creative Arts Division to highlight their work and creativity,” said Nate Lowe, assistant professor of writing.
The concert included student performances by the concert band, which performed two songs under the direction of conductor Russell Pettitt, assistant professor of music and director of bands, Charlie Krebs’ acting class this semester, and the Schilcutt Handbell Ensemble, who performed a medley of Queen hits, with Janet Herrick, professor of music and director of college choirs and handbells.
Individual performances were given in the fields of creative non-fiction and vocal music by Senior Writing Major Alan Fairchild, Fabian Qamar, Kristal Klemme, Stephanie Wasmer, and Cody Linder.
New to the Mosaic Concert this year was a three-way collaboration entitled “Evolution,” which was put together by Nate Lowe, Associate Professor of Music and Collage Pianist Arthur Johnson, and Associate Professor of Art and Director of Gallery Bill Weidner. This piece began with a painting done by Weidner. The painting was then given to Johnson, who composed a melody to go along with it. Both pieces were then given to Lowe, who wrote a creative non-fiction essay to go along with it.
“The piece Nate did with the other two professors was my favorite,” said Veronika Lau, a freshman writing major. “I also really enjoyed the handbell choir.”
The theater was almost full, and there was plenty of praise and accolades going around after it ended.
