According to Jess Lambrecht, director of career services, about 60 students have signed up for the Workforce Career and Internship Fair, which will be held at State Fair Park in the West Allis on Feb. 23 from 3 to 7 p.m.

The trip is free of charge for students who wish to ride down on a shuttle. A $10 deposit is enforced for shuttle rides, but will be returned to the student. Shuttles will be leaving at 2:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.

At the fair, students will get experience by putting their best foot forward to make an impression on a potential employer.

According to Lambrecht, for the first time this year, the fair will be open to graduate students. In the fair’s 24 years of operation, graduate student programs have never been offered.

Students are able to sign up for the fair early. By doing so, they are able to research the employer they wish to be interviewed by. Preregistered students get a nametag when they arrive at the fair and, if the student wishes to drive on their own, they receive a free parking.

At the fair, 140 employers will be stationed at booths around the Exposition Center. Some of the businesses include Associated Bank, Acuity, Walmart, Walgreens, Dell Software, Noodles and Company, Six Flags Great America, American Family Insurance and Harley Davidson.

Police departments from Milwaukee and Madison, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Department of Corrections will also be at the fair for criminal justice majors.

“Almost any major will find an opportunity,” said Lambrecht.

According to Lambrecht, a LinkedIn booth was added to the fair this year to improve online presence.

“Networking is not something we do naturally,” said Lambrecht. “It takes practice.”

On March 11, the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team will be hosting an internship fair in Milwaukee. ESPN sports network will be there for internships as well. The last job fair will be on April 1, which is aimed at summer jobs off campus.
